Working to find loving homes for abandoned animals

Who we are

We are a family-run animal rescue charity based in Horsham, West Sussex.

Founded nearly 30 years ago, Holbrook Animal Rescue was set up to help abandoned and unwanted animals to find a safe place to call home. Unlike many other rescues, our dogs aren't kept in kennels. They sleep in the house and are free to run in the play area of our field.

Viewing is by appointment only.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ AND ACTION!

Holbrook animal rescue is under threat.

For over thirty years Holbrook Animal Rescue has been the lifeline at the heart of our community for animals in need. We are proud to be one of the only ‘kennel free’ rescue centres in the UK, giving dogs the freedom, happiness and dignity they deserve while they wait for their forever families to find them.

Along with dogs and cats we have taken in so many different animals from injured wildlife, to horses and goats, reptiles, birds and any other creature that needed care.

We do this for one reason and one reason only: to ensure that every animal in our community can find refuge somewhere safe when they need it most.

Holbrook was founded in 1996 by Laura and her mother Sylvia, in Sylvia’s own home. Sadly Sylvia passed last year. It is no longer possible for the rescue to remain in her house as the property will need to be sold to fulfil Sylvia’s will and settle her estate.

Therefore, Holbrook Rescue centre will have to relocate. Which, as you can imagine, with a house of 40 dogs, 10 cats and 3 horses, among other animals, is not an easy thing to do!

In 2024, Laura and Cliff, the owners of the Rescue Centre, finally found a field that had the potential to become Holbrook’s future. After positive and hopeful conversations from a planning officer, they spent the next year painstakingly clearing and landscaping the ground, and drawing up plans for a new centre. And, after a lot of work, surveys and careful consideration, they applied for the planning permission to build it.

On the 1st of July this year, Horsham District Council refused their application, despite overwhelming community support.

They are currently appealing this decision, but fear that if this is not successful there will be nowhere else to go. Holbrook Animal Rescue will be out of time and out of options.

Holbrook’s dogs, cats, horses, and even the smallest creatures like birds and hedgehogs would be left with no home. For too many, the end of the rescue would mean the end of their story.

The future of Holbrook Animal Rescue now hangs in the balance.

Dog of the month

Meet Luna

Age - 10 months old

Female

Labrador mix

Luna has a lovely disposition; she is just great with the dogs at Holbrook. She is loyal and will not run off but she is a little nervous initially in situations that are new to her. She loves people once she gets to know you!

Luna needs an experienced and confident person that will have the ability to bring her with her confidence. She will need the luxury of two substantial walks each day and draw strength from a confident companion dog. Luna will need her new owner to be at home the majority of the time and have access to a good sized garden.

Can you give this lovely dog her forever home?
